Estimates remain a controversial topic in software development today. Many people think that estimates and detailed planning are important. Certainly some companies want these things badly, and that may be enough to cause us to do them. Unfortunately, "badly" is almost always how we do with estimates. For teams in flight, estimation is at most an internal matter and may well be almost entirely waste.
